Ants
The lifecycle of a cockroach is based on three stages namely :
1. Egg 2. Nymph 3. Adult
These nocturnal insects are commonly attracted to warm and moist environments. Found in all households, mainly under refrigerators, kitchen cabinets, behind wall hangings or within electronic devices. The presence of the roaches during day time may indicate the sign of a large population.
There are nearly 2700 species of mosquitoes in the world and the most significant ones are the Aedes, Anopheles and the Culex. These are the most dangerous species that are responsible for transmitting deadly diseases to mankind. Amongst these, Aedes is the most dangerous which spreads human menacing diseases like yellow fever, dengue and also lymphatic filariasis, a disease which can cause elephantiasis in some cases.
ANT- SPINY HARVESTER ANT OR BIG HEADED ANT Scientific Name : Pheidole Watsoni
Major worker ants have large heads and are 4 mm long. They are reddish-brown in colour with brown gaster. While the minor workers are 1.5 mm long. Their colour vary from light yellow to brown with darker head and gaster; two nodes and two propodeal spines. These ants live in small colonies with around 200-300 members. These ants are terrestrial and make nests in cracks on walls and floors. They feed on seeds, sugary substances, meats, cereals, molasses etc
Bed bugs are pests that survive around human dwellings and feed on human blood. They are named as bedbugs since they are commonly found in beds. During day time, these bugs hide in small cracks and crevices and feed on blood at night.
There are various types of spiders found in houses, offices, factories or establishments that are not cleaned regularly or properly maintained. Cobweb spiders, also known as Daddy Long Legs, have very small body with long legs and common in households. Though not a pest, cobwebs make the house look dirty and unkempt. We also find Jumping Spiders at our homes that are small, black in colour with white or red markings. Often found in windows, these spiders rarely bite. Sheet-Web or Orb Spiders are common in shrubs around house. They have a pair of dark bands across their yellow head-thorax and abdomen.
Houseflies, Fruitflies and eye flies are the most common household pests which cause serious contamination of food. These are pests that are mainly found in various food joints and restaurants and create a great chaos and nuisance, especially during the monsoon season. These pests are capable of transmitting thousands of pathogens which causes several fatal dieseases like typhoid, cholera, bacillary dysentery and many more.
A carrier of various diseases, a bandicoot rat is large and aggressive animal that is usually found near garbage bins feeding on household refuse, vegetables and even grains. They are considered a major issue in poultry farms. They also damage grounds and flooring to dig in their burrows. An adult Bandicoot Rat is dark greyish-brown in colour and 30-40 cm long with an equally long tail and weigh about 1.4 kg.
